In 2018, the couple had their first date at the hotel bar inside The Dupont Circle Hotel in Washington, D.C. Ameya suggested they meet at 8pm on a Tuesday (finance bro) and West did not want to go all the way home from work, only to commute back to the Dupont Circle neighborhood... so West went out drinking with co-workers first and showed up tipsy. Four martinis each and nearly as many hours later, they kissed goodnight as Ameya walked two whole blocks home (yes, he was THAT guy) and West metro'd across town and called into work "sick" the next day with the Grey Goose Flu (lightweight).
Three weeks later, West invited Ameya on a fourth and double-date to meet two friends: Rob and Sangeetha. As West told Rob at the time, "I think this could be the one, so we might as well see if he sinks or floats." As it turns out... all four of them floated just fine on the bottomless brunch special. At least, they did until the restaurant ran out of orange juice and started pouring straight champagne. Which is to say, the "meet the friends" date was a success.
Together, over the years, West and Ameya have survived eight moves; lived in three cities and three states; quarantined through a global pandemic (in a 350 sq. ft. apartment, nonetheless); and traveled all around the U.S. and nine other countries. And... in Spring 2023, they adopted a daughter, Maggi, who is the world's very best dog and, yes, is named after the noodles. Thank you for noticing.
Strengthened by the love and support of their incredible families (Ameya: Alok, Arpita and Avani; West: Frank, Janet and Sarah) — and friends who make them question how they got so lucky in life — in December 2022 they proposed to one another over dinner at one of their favorite restaurants. There are pictures, but they shan't be shared because neither the waiters, nor the old lady at the table next to them nor the young lady at the other table next to them knew how to take a good photo.
On April 27, 2024 (the closest Saturday we could get to April 25... "the perfect date"), West and Ameya will share their vows and then drink many martinis in celebration. They hope you can join them.
